Wickford Walking Tour

Wickford Walking Tour

Event description: Follow North Kingstown historian Tim Cranston on a walking tour of the historic village of Wickford in North Kingstown, RI to meet the people and see the places that were significant during the American Revolution. Hear interesting stories of creative generals, daring militia, dedicated black and white soldiers, Tories and Patriots - and learn how their lives were forever affected by America's fight for freedom. Part of a series of lectures and events celebrating North Kingstown’s 250 years of history.

We don't usually think of the Revolution happening here in town, but it did! British soldiers were stationed across the Bay in Newport and our area was teeming with supporters of both sides - loyalty to the crown and colonial independence. This made for interesting times! The tour walks by several homes and businesses owned by Patriots and Tories, and Tim will share many interesting, true stories of courage, bravery, and rebellion.

Many thanks to our event partners - Battle of Rhode Island Association, HistWick; the Town of North Kingstown 250 Committee and G. Timothy Cranston, filmed/edited by W. Parmentier Media (06/11/25)
